Optimization of Your Furnace

Efficiency of the Furnace

In Winter, when you turn on your furnace, you must find ways to enhance the efficiency of your furnace to save cost. By keeping the furnace’s efficiency high, you can keep maintenance costs, energy bills, and comfort levels at record lows. Follow these methods to make your furnace more efficient and save some money.

Clear and Clean Air Vents

It is usual for things like drapes, furniture, or even the kids’ toys to obstruct vents. Avoid making your furnace work harder than necessary to maintain a pleasant temperature in your house by keeping the vents clean of any blockages. The same holds true for any dirt or dust that is obstructing your home’s air vents. If you want clean air inside your house and an effective furnace, you should clean the vents often.

Replace Air Filters

Your comfort system’s filter prevents allergens and particles in the air from entering your house, so it is only natural that it will accumulate dust and debris over time. Changing the filter at least once every one to three months will keep it from becoming blocked. A blocked filter forces your furnace to work harder to provide enough heating for your house, which in turn increases your energy costs and makes you feel cold.

More problems than just inefficiency could arise from a blocked filter. If the blower motor becomes too hot, the safety sensors will trigger, and the system will turn off. The heat exchanger can also develop cracks more quickly, which can lead to carbon monoxide leakage. For the sake of the health and safety of your pets, allergy sufferers, and smokers, it is recommended that you replace your filter more often.

Protect Drafts

Money is going down the drain if you did not do this before winter hit. Caulk any gaps that have grown over time and make sure all doors and windows have weather stripping. By doing this, you can maintain a pleasant temperature inside your house and save money on heating costs.

Set Up the Thermostat

Even if you have a programmable thermostat installed, is it configured to run at peak efficiency? You can reduce the amount of energy your furnace uses to heat your house by lowering the thermostat. In other words, to avoid wasting energy heating a property that is not occupied, turn the thermostat down when you leave. Prior to your return home, you have the option to adjust the thermostat to a warmer setting.

Enroll in Routine Maintenance

In addition to improving your furnace’s performance, having it serviced annually can save you money by avoiding expensive repairs caused by system faults. In addition to replacing filthy filters and fixing broken or worn components, Cambridge certified experts will conduct a comprehensive check. Priority service, component savings, and the assurance that your system is running at peak performance are all benefits of Cambridge’s maintenance plan.

A Few Broad Points on Maximizing Productivity

If you follow the steps outlined above, your furnace should be running efficiently, and you should see a decrease in your monthly energy expenditures. Nonetheless, here are a few additional suggestions for cutting costs:

  • At least one thing you can do to make your house warmer throughout the day is to open the curtains in rooms that front direct sunshine.
  • When the weather is moderate, put away the furnace, slip into your favorite sweatpants and fuzzy socks, and wrap yourself in your favorite blanket.
  • In the winter, turn the ceiling fans on a clockwise rotation to distribute heat evenly by pushing the air up.
  • To avoid bare feet on chilly flooring, cover hard surfaces with rugs. They will retain heat.
